Photographic Workshop – Torres del Paine
Paine National Park is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers: the fauna, flora and landscapes are unique.
The trip is limited to 8 people and open to anyone who has a passion for photography. It is designed to allow everyone quality time at some fabulous locations, with accommodation, food and logistics all taken care of.
Our photographic safari takes in some of the highlights of Paine including the Grey glacier, the vivid blue and green Lago Pehoe, and the superb views over the Towers and Horns, central to the massif.
Days spent in the park will be filled with breathtaking views of rock spires, snow covered peaks, shimmering glaciers, jewel coloured lakes and sun scorched grasslands dotted with wildflowers. Wildlife abounds here and you share the trail with guanacos, Darwin’s rhea, condors, Chilean flamingos, fox, buff-necked ibis, swans, geese, woodpeckers and even once in a while the elusive South American puma.
In addition to visiting Torres del Paine in Chilean Patagonia, this trip also includes a further three days in Argentina (a day's travel across the border) to the southern region of Los Glaciares national park.
Our reasons for visiting Los Glaciares are simple. Perhaps one of the (if not the) highlight of a visit to South America is to photograph the impressive Perito Moreno glacier at sunrise.
While we are in Los Glaciares, we will also visit the Upsalla, Spegazinni and O'nelli glacier regions in a days boat trip. The boat trip is very considerate to photographers, often mooring alongside excellent views of the glaciers throughout the day.
The photography sessions will be led by Bruce Percy. Bruce is an internationally-travelled and published photographer who also contributes articles to the Outdoor Photography magazine. He has visited and photographed Patagonia many times and has the knowledge to help you make the most of this photographic safari.
Bruce says "
Torres del Paine is perhaps my favourite national park in the world. I've been here over seven times now and it's just amazingly beautiful. With turquoise glacial lakes, granite spires and the most distinctive mountain range - the Cuernos (Horns) of Paine and of course the three towers themselves, fail to impress.
I have decided that in 2012, we will do a very special trip to Torres - we will go in Winter. I can't emphasise just how rare an opportunity it is to come at this time of year and visit the park.
Torres closes at the end of April as Winter approaches in the southern hemisphere. But there is much beauty here for the photographer during this time. With extreme weather conditions, a low sun for the duration of the day, and the peaks of the area covered in snow - means we will have some special opportunities to photograph and experience the park whilst practically no one else is there.
To see what you could achieve, have a look at the photos of Niall Connaughton who went on our November 2007 photo safari in Paine.
Check our Books and Maps section where you will find a range of literature to help you get the most out of your South American adventure.
